Universal life

Universal life insurance in Palm Bay

Universal life is permanent coverage with premiums that can move. Flexibility is useful only if the policy stays funded. An illustration is not a promise of growth.

Why people call

  • Premiums can flex

You may be able to pay more or less than the planned premium, within the contract. Paying less for too long can make the policy lapse.

  • Read the charges

Cost of insurance and other charges come out of the policy. We point at those lines instead of looking only at the illustrated cash value.

  • No projected returns on this page

We do not publish interest rates or sample cash values. Those numbers belong on a carrier illustration with the assumptions labeled.

Why the illustration matters

A universal life illustration shows what might happen if interest credits, charges, and your premiums follow the assumptions on the page. If the credited rate is lower, or if charges rise the way the contract allows, the policy can run out of cash value. We walk through a guaranteed column and a non-guaranteed column when the carrier provides both.

Indexed universal life and other designs credit interest using a formula tied to a market index, usually with a cap, a floor, or a participation rate. The floor is not the same thing as a gain. We will not tell you an index policy earns stock-market returns.

If you already own a universal life policy and the annual statement looks thin, bring it. Call or text (321) 429-1182. We would rather catch a lapsing policy than sell a new one.

A free quote is not a policy. Nothing on this page is a binder of coverage.

Questions people ask

How is universal life different from whole life?

Whole life usually has a fixed required premium. Universal life lets the premium move, and the cash value depends on credits and charges. That flexibility can help, and it can also let a policy lapse if it is underfunded. We will say which design a quote is.

Can the policy lapse even if I pay something?

Yes. If what you pay does not cover the charges, cash value can fall to zero and the coverage can end. Some no-lapse guarantees prevent that only if you pay a stated amount on time. We look for that guarantee before we treat a premium as safe.

Is the illustrated rate a promise?

No. The current or illustrated rate can change. The guaranteed minimum, if there is one, is the number the carrier is obligated to credit. We show you both columns when they exist.

Does indexed universal life earn stock market returns?

No. These policies do not invest your premium in the index. They credit interest using a formula that may include a cap or a participation rate. A floor of zero is not a gain. We will not describe it as an investment account.

Should I pay the minimum premium?

Only if you understand how long the coverage lasts at that amount. The minimum to keep the policy from lapsing this month is not always enough to keep it in force for life. We run that question on the illustration.

Can I change the death benefit later?

Many contracts allow an increase or a decrease, and an increase can require new underwriting. A decrease can have charges or tax effects. We do not give tax advice. We will read the change rules in the quote.

I already have a universal life policy. Can you look at it?

Yes. Bring the annual statement and the original illustration if you have them. We look at cash value, charges, and whether the planned premium still supports the death benefit. Replacing a policy is not automatic.

Do you charge to explain an illustration?

No. The conversation is free. A quote is not a policy, and an illustration is not a guarantee.
