Why people call

  • The work you were hired to do

Design, advice, a professional service, or another job where a mistake can cost a client money rather than cause an injury.

  • Not a slip-and-fall policy

Bodily injury and damage to a client’s building are usually general liability. We will not pretend one policy does both.

  • Claims-made, said plainly

Many of these policies respond when the claim is made, not when the work was done. A gap in coverage can matter. We point at that.

What it covers

A client alleges that your professional service, design, or advice caused them a financial loss. The policy can pay defense costs and, if the claim is covered, a settlement or judgment, up to the limits. It does not cover every unhappy customer. Intentional acts, work outside the services you declared, and claims you already knew about are common problems. We read those parts of the application with you.

Many professional policies are claims-made. The policy in force when the claim arrives is the one that may respond, and it may only cover work back to a retroactive date. If you switch carriers, that date has to be handled on purpose. We will not tell you a new policy automatically picks up old work.

Who needs it

Consultants, designers, real estate and insurance professionals, technology firms, and some contractors in Palm Bay and Brevard County, especially when a contract asks for errors and omissions by name. If your work product is advice or a service, general liability is probably not the policy a client is asking for.

Call or text (321) 429-1182. Tell us the services you actually sell, not the broadest label that fits. Choose Professional liability on the quote form. We do not publish sample premiums or promise that a carrier will appoint you.

A free quote is not a policy. Nothing on this page is a binder of coverage.

Questions people ask

How is this different from general liability?

General liability is for bodily injury and property damage to others. Professional liability is for a financial loss tied to your service or advice. A broken pipe you installed may be one claim. A specification you wrote that cost the client a bid can be the other. Tell us which risk you were asked to insure.

What does claims-made mean?

The claim usually has to be made while the policy is in force, and the work usually has to fall after the retroactive date. An occurrence policy, more common on general liability, is built differently. We will say which form the quote uses. Do not let a professional policy lapse and assume the next one covers last year’s project.

What is a tail?

An extended reporting period you can sometimes buy when a claims-made policy ends, so claims from past work can still be reported. It is optional, it costs extra, and the window is in the offer. We will not tell you that you have a tail unless you bought one.

I already know a client is unhappy. Can I buy the policy now?

You must disclose circumstances that could become a claim. A policy bought after you know about a problem often excludes it. Tell us before you apply. Hiding it is worse than a decline.

Does this cover a data breach?

Usually no. A lost laptop or a ransomware event is a cyber question unless the professional form specifically includes it. We will not describe a cyber event as an errors-and-omissions claim without reading the form.

A contract names errors and omissions. Is general liability enough?

Usually not. If the contract asks for professional liability, a general liability certificate will not satisfy it. Bring the insurance paragraph. We match the quote to the words they used.

Do contractors need this?

Some do, when the job includes design, consulting, or professional services on top of the labor. A straight installation that only creates injury or property-damage risk may be a general liability question instead. Describe the contract and we will say which application to start.

Is the quote free?

Yes. There is no fee for the conversation. The carrier still decides whether to offer the policy.
